What we do
Our Mission is to communicate the gospel and equip Christ honoring churches in Michigan to evangelize and disciple people affected by disability.

We seek to do this by:

Evangelize people affected by disabilities and their families.
We bring the ministry and the word of reconciliation to people affected by disability so that they might receive Christ as their Savior and become conformed to His image. Each relationship and program in which we engage is centered upon how it facilitates people knowing Christ better.

Train, disciple, and mentor people affected by disabilities.
There is great potential for leadership and service in the disability community. We seek to identify such people and equip them to be effective servants of Christ.

Multiply disability effective churches.
A disability effective church is one which has moved from a lack of awareness regarding people affected by disabilities to one which incorporates them into the fabric of the church’s worship, fellowship, and outreach. Such churches also seek to influence and train other churches to become disability affective.

Where we are
Joni and Friends Grand Traverse Chapter is located in the Traverse City, Michigan area. Traverse City is located in the Northwest corner of Lower Michigan.

What makes us different
Joni and Friends Grand Traverse Chapter is unique as disability organizations go. We minister to the whole person, physical, spiritual, mental and emotional. The family is a very important part of the ministry as we seek to support everyone who has been affected by disability. We seek to incorporate the family who has been affected by disability into the local church. The local church is God ordained and is the vehicle that we seek to work through as we lead those affected by disability to the feet of Jesus.

Would you like to have the same heart and compassion as Jesus Christ? I would like to share with you how you can have that heart and passion. When Christ walked this earth he ministered to the poor, the weak, and the disabled. 70% of the stories in the gospels deal with Christ’s compassion for the disabled. Do you know that there are aproximately 8,000 disabled individuals in the Grand Traverse Area and only about 5% of those individuals attend any kind of church? Christ tells us in Luke 14:21 to go out and bring in the poor, and crippled, and blind, and lame so that God’s kingdom would be full.
